Ramsay’s Classroom Procedures

Beginning of Class Procedures

• Empty backpack and hang it on your hook.  Hang lunches from home and jacket on the other hook. 
• Sit quietly in your assigned seat, get out your homework, and complete the Warm-up work on the front board within the first five minutes.
• Read the list of the class activities for the day on the front board and copy down the homework assignment in your agenda.
• Prepare your materials for the day’s instruction.
• Place all remaining classroom materials in your desk.  All materials needed for class must be removed from your backpack before class begins.

Class time Procedures

• To obtain the teacher’s attention during class discussion or individual study time, use the following hand signals until the teacher acknowledges your request with a nod:

* Raise the index finger= “I wish to speak.”

                              * Raise two fingers= “I wish to leave my seat.”

* Raise three fingers= “I need your help.”

• To give the teacher your undivided attention, you will hear “Give me five”, accompanied be a raised hand. “GIVE ME FIVE”:

1. Eyes on speaker   2. Mouth quiet  3. Being still  4. Hands free  5. Listening

• Respond to “give me five” by verbally counting to five in unison with the class and mentally listing the five steps.

• If your pencil needs to be sharpened, use your manual sharpener at your seat.
• Place all garbage, including pencil shavings, in your team basket.
• Copy all notes, charts, diagrams, or maps displayed on the white board or Promethean Board.
• After completing work, study for upcoming tests or read.

Procedures for Heading Papers

• Head all papers in the top right hand corner with the following information:

*Number *Full name *Date *Subject *Assignment

 Test/Quiz Procedures

          For paper tests:

• Keep your eyes on your own paper.
• Cover all answers with a cover sheet.
• Remain seated.
• Remain silent.
• At completion, turn test/quiz face down.
• Put head down on work area

For digital tests:

·        Keep you eyes on your own work.

·        Remain seated.

·        Remain silent.

·        At completion, get out a book to read or work to complete that is not work that is being tested on the current test.

Digital Citizenship Procedures

In class, we will be using multiple technology tools that you will have also have access to from home. When using these tools you must…

• Only use appropriate language and resources
• Never give out any personal information
• Keep all login and passwords private
• Remember that work done digitally will impact your grades

Failure to follow these procedures will result in a loss of the privilege in participating in these technology tools and discipline action will be taken.

 Book Check-out Procedures

• Write your name, the date, the resource book you wish to borrow (novel, dictionary, other resource book, etc.) and the indicated number on the book on the classroom library clipboard.
• Return the book to school the next morning (for resource books) or within a week for classroom library books.

End of Class Procedures

At the conclusion of the school day:

                        * Work area, including floor, cleaned and straightened

                        * Designated team member throws away trash in team basket and returns

supplies to proper places

                        * Mouth quiet

* Leave quietly in an orderly fashion.

Emergency Procedures

Fire Drill (talking alert)

1. Line up quietly, in a single file, at the classroom door when each team is called.
2. Leave all personal belongings.
3. Follow the teacher quickly and quietly out the side door and away from the building.
4. Remain calm and quiet, listening for further instructions.

Severe Weather Drill (tones)

1.      Line up quietly, in a single file, at the classroom door when each team is called.

2. Leave all personal belongings.
3. Quickly and quietly move to a seated position.
4. Remain calm and quiet, listening for further instructions.
