* Preparing for Success
The pace of the fifth grade math curriculum is extremely fast. It is crucial to your student's success that he/she know their basic math facts before coming to fifth grade as it is not in the 5th grade curriculum. We will begin each unit with a pre-test so that I can determine the ability level of each student and provide the instruction that your student needs through Math Workshop. Assessments will occur when we finish a unit of study. They will be announced several days before the test day. Completing Math homework is crucial to mastering math skills. Many of the test questions are taken directly from the Math homework. Just like in anything else, practice is essential to success in Math. There is usually one test a week in addition to district-mandated weekly timed math fact drills. Students will be drawing conclusions about each standard and how it applies to their lives outside of the classroom walls.
